Dr. Cheng grew up in a small town in Tennessee. He enjoyed water-skiing and fishing on the Tennessee River. While excelling in math and science, he also enjoyed interacting with and helping people. As a result, he knew at a young age that the medical profession would be a perfect fit for him. In 1987, he graduated valedictorian of his high school. Afterwards, he attended Vanderbilt University and studied in the prestigious Honors Scholars Program while majoring in both Biology and Chemistry. After graduating college in 1991, he attended Vanderbilt Medical School. Having lived in Nashville for 8 years, it was time for a change. In 1995, he moved north to Morgantown, West Virginia to continue his medical education at West Virginia University Health Sciences Emergency Medicine Residency program. While there, he also enjoyed the snow-skiing the area provided.
In 1998, after completing his Emergency Medicine residency and weary of the cold and snow, he moved south to enjoy Houston's warm weather and multi-cultural diversity. Dr. Cheng has board certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has practiced Emergency Medicine in Houston for over 20 years. He continues to enjoy providing quality emergency care to all his patients.
